We got this tool box (in the red/blue, which I guess is the older model) when our oldest son was almost 2. He loved it then, and still loves it now. He's 4.5 and it is one of the few toys we have never put away when we rotate out the toys every few months. Now his little brother (age 2) loves it, as well. It is such a sturdy toy, after 2.5 years it is in great shape and hardly looks used, even though it is played with daily.

There was a time when my oldest took tools to bed with him at night, and insisted on taking them in the car when we ran errands. He dressed as a builder for Halloween when he was almost 3...we threw caution to the wind and let him wear his tools in a tool belt, and lost the wrench at Trick or Treat. I went back the next day and searched high and low, all through the neighborhood, but had no luck finding it. I emailed a Green Toys rep to ask if it was possible to buy a replacement wrench, and they sent us one for free. It came in just a day or two, and my son was SO HAPPY! Great company, great toys, we are forever fans!

I bought for my grandaughter who loves to help daddy with all his projects and tools. She is a very hands on 2 1/2 yr old. She was very excited to use the tools yet the construction of the carry box with holes was awkwardly placed at the bottom, made it very difficult to screw in to. soon she lost interest. If there were holes higher up on the 2 cross bar sides that would have made more sense. Also to have more than 2 nails and screws would give more to connect the green pieces. Perhaps it is for a 3 yr old who has more interest in pursuing a task.

One main reason I chose this tool set was for the "green" though, I would not recommend this item in the future.

I usually love everything made by Green Toys, but I am a little disappointed in this set. The nails are useless. Even I can't pound them in, let alone my 19-month-old. And, it would have been nice if the screws actually screwed into something other than the nuts. Otherwise, it's a nice and sturdy set.

I had to buy my son a tool set because every project I do around the house he tends to walk off with my tools if they are out of my sight for a second. That and real hammers and screwdrivers in a 2 year olds hands cause a lot more damage than plastic. I purchased this set for him when he was 2 and he is about a month away from 3 now and he still uses it daily. He can play pretty rough with things and so far nothing has broken or even been damaged. Very durable. I also love that fact that he now has at least a handful of toys made here in the U.S. I'd definitely recommend buying this.

My 2 year old son enjoyed the tools for awhile, but mainly to hammer the couch with or use the pliers on the dog. The tool box has holes in it to hammer nails into or push the screws into, but the holes are way too small to actually do it. Would have been a lot cooler if you could actually hammer the nails into something.
