My old florescent ring lamp was starting to flash after it warmed up and it was driving me crazy so I decided to try this LED ring light. I was unable to use the adapter ring that was supplied with the AmScope light it appeared to be about the right diameter but the threads just wouldn't engage. The ring adapter is plastic and that didn't excite me too much either. I had a metal adapter ring that had been used with the old florescent lamp fixture which worked just fine with the AmScope light so I used that.

Mounted on the scope, the AmScope ring light is a bit thicker (deeper top to bottom) than the original lamp fixture but this is not an issue with my scope as the working distance is sufficient to keep the LED fixture out of my way while working under the scope. I measure the depth to be about 1.4 inches (3.5cm) from the bottom of the scope to the bottom of the LED fixture.

As far as the light output goes, with the control set all the way counter clockwise (minimum brightness), this light is brighter than my old florescent ring light was. With the control fully clockwise, wow! Each of the LEDs are angled slightly towards the center of the ring so that the light produced is focused into a spot. The spot is large enough to fully fill the field of my scope at its minimum magnification setting.

The LED fixture and the power box both run cool of course I am running the light at its minimum illumination setting most of the time. Overall I am very happy with this ring light. If you don't have an adapter ring that you know fits your scope you may want to verify that the adapter shipped with this light will fit your microscope.
