I do wish and did think that the globe was crystal from the title, Crystal Marquis Globe. It turned out to be Acrylic......Still it is attractive and less fragile. Crystal, would have made a much more impressive statement....with a much higher price tag too!
I do believe this will be a very appreciated, striking gift.

This globe is captivating on display! I have never seen a clear globe before, and the photo here on Amazon doesn't do it justice. Light reflects off the clear surface, drawing the eye. The silver land masses give off that rich texture of having been etched, even though they are not.All bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes, and bays, are also clear like the oceans.
Political boundaries are dashed dark grey lines.
Major cities, a few significant mountains, and all water masses named are in the same dark grey.
Countries are marked in deep red.
Not all capital cities are labeled (which I don't like), but most are, and are marked with a star.
All other cities are marked with a small square.
All major lines of latitude and longitude are marked with very subtle, fine light grey lines.
The stand is a beautiful brushed nickel finish. It has a nice, heavy weight to it, to balance out the light weight of the globe itself.
As another reviewer mentioned, this is plastic, not glass, don't be fooled by the word "crystal" in the title.
I find that it is not perfectly balanced, as it wants to always settle with the North Atlantic and Africa at the top, even when I try to leave it with another section at the top.
As a collector of globes, I find this to be a truly unique piece. The neutral design is modern, and will coordinate well with many color schemes in different homes and offices. I am thrilled to have it!
