I am a school-based occupational therapist who focuses on fine/visual motor skill development in children who have deficits in this area. I have found that this dot to dot is one of my most favorite activities for my students of all ages and developmental levels. Not only does it facilitate bilateral hand coordination and eye-hand skills by performing the actual lacing, but the ABC cards help the kids learn to sequence their ABC's while having fun with the lacing. My older students as well as the younger ones all enjoy selecting the animal they want to do and the color lace they want to use. Even if some of them cannot yet sequence the ABC's, they still receive the bilateral hand/brain skills by just lacing the holes in random order. Also, to increase independence in sequencing the ABC's, allowing them to use an alphabet chart for reference encourages them to find the "next letter" and proceed with greater independence. I am ordering more of these kits to use at each school. Also, the shapes can be placed on paper and traced around for additional bilateral hand development. Simple, inexpensive, and educational!!
