These were selected my child's speech-language pathologist and are used in their clinical setting, which is how I came across them. They are sturdy and can be wiped of any messes. They have a great time box to be kept safe in. They are especially useful when you are using them on a child or adult that is more "visual" (as is the case with most people with Down syndrome, which is what I have experience with and why I posted this in my review title). A lot of cards that focus on language development have cartoon pictures which can be too abstract for someone who is more visual or intellectually challenged. My daughter has been using these for a few months now, and is doing so well with them that she asks for them even at meal times! She now has all 40 verbs mastered and is even able to choose one out of a field of 2 and sometimes 3. She is 4 and has Down syndrome.

The best ways to use these cards is to ask "Wh-" questions, such as "What is the boy doing?" Once the child gets the verb portion alone, you can add more questions such as, "What color is the girl's shirt?" or "What is the boy washing?" After this, you can introduce 2 cards side by side and ask the child "Who" is doing something ("Who is running?"). From there, you can increase the field to more like 3 or 4.

These are wonderful, simple, photographs of children performing different actions! Great for working on increasing children's' vocabulary to include more verbs and for working on pronouns (he, she). Only critique is that all of the pictures contain only one child so these cards cannot be used to work on pronoun-they.

Awesome cards. We use them as therapy for autistic children and they seem to really love the large colore pictures. All the Smethport photo cards are wonderful.

This are great educational tools for teaching. My son is 3 and I use these to associate these with 3D objects.

I have a laminating machine so i have laminated these but you dont need to. They are printed on thick material and picture quality is great. I prefer actual images than icons so these work really well.

Highly recommended.

I bought these Photo Language Action Cards to teach English to children. On the back of each card, a translator wrote the word for the action depicted in Haitian Creole, and I wrote the English word. I am sure these cards have many uses, but I used them to teach English. The pictures are beautiful and the cards are sturdy. They come in a protective metal case, which keeps them clean.
