My 4 yo child has autism he doesn't speak and he chews on his shirt a lot. I bought this for him hoping to help him. He chews on it a LOT and it's been very helpful in helping him not chew his shirts up as much. I'm hoping it will help motivate him to start talking but time will tell on that one. He HAS been a bit more verbal but I don't know if that's coincidental or not. Either way I am very glad I got it for him. It also has a very nice scent to it. :)

I really wanted my son to use this, he was chewing everything else and needed something better for "oral motor exploration". I can see how the long end could be a bit of a choking hazard but my son was already a bit older (1.5 years) when I got it. Sadly, he just didn't care for it. Chewed it maybe once.

So if your kid will actually chew on it, I think it's fantastic if you need to get your kid to move his/her tongue around in their mouth.
