This wood block has a lovely smooth finish that shows quality and makes a very full, satisfying sound when struck with the included mallet. No, there's no hole to store the mallet, but that's because this is a *real* percussion instrument and that's not how they are made. You could easily grab a large rubber band and just band the mallet to the block for storage. I use it in my preschool music class and the children love the big sound it makes.

My daughter's 20 months, so I wanted to find something simple for her to start playing. She beats along when I'm playing the guitar, so the toy's a hit. I only wish it had a hole inside the block to put the stick. I'm afraid I'm going to lose it.
