The Elenco FM Radio Kit is an excellent product. The instructions are precise and easy to follow, and the parts are clearly identified. In addition, the testing guide, which tests your progress half way through and then at the end of the assembly is also excellent. This is the way a digital electric kit should be. It is top of the line!

The unhappy label is from my first review and it has followed me ever since. I am not unhappy with this kit. This radio comes with instructions to set the audio amplifier at the Maximum level. Capacitor C21 does this. If you remove it from the circuit then the level is set at the lowest amplification and the radio works much better and without distortion. the tiny speaker cannot handle the higher setting so the radio will have too much distortion at the higher level. The instruction describe this modification,in the troubleshooting section, but it is not clear to the average builder. Remember DO NOT INSTALL C21 or remove it if you have already installed it.

With this one change the kit is a great build. Enjoy.

This is a great kit for beginners and they are fun to use. I took mine a bit further and made a wooden case in which it can be housed. I would say this is appropriate for children at least 10-12 years old because it takes some focus and a steady hand as well as a steady platform and safe work environment. It does require tools and supplies not included: needle nose pliers, side cutters, soldering iron (20W is perfect), and a small Philips (or reed and prince, if you call it that) screwdriver. But I also recommend safety glasses and well ventilated work area.
