I bought these as a toy for my cats (I settled on them after researching motorised mice). When I first turned one on, my cats spent around 3.5 hours watching, batting & jumping on/around it before getting bored (when the battery started to die). The next day, one of the cats was batting at the Hexbug (switched off), trying to get it to move, so I replaced the battery & switched it back on & it kept them amused for another couple of hours. Now I switch one on for a couple of hours a day. It's been 2 weeks & my cats still haven't tired of them.
I don't know why anyone would buy a motorised mouse over these. They move like a roomba vacuum, scurrying around like a bug & changing direction when they bump something, so you don't need to direct them. If they get knocked on their backs, they turn themselves back over. They're so lifelike (I mean in terms of moving like a bug). Like the roomba, it's almost difficult to register that they aren't alive. They've also got a rubbery outside, which protects them from my kitties teeth, and they're the perfect speed for a cat. My guys love them.
The negatives the battery does die after about 3.5 hours of continuous use. You know it's losing its power when it can't turn itself back over. Note I just took someone else's advice and purchased 100 x cheap batteries off the internet. You need size AG13/L44. Also, they do get stuck if wedged into something that's the same shape (which is understandable). But one of my cats has become adept at using his paw to dislodge them when they do get stuck (well, about every 3 out of 5 times). I have smart cats (Devon Rexes) :-)

These little nano bugs look pretty simple, but they create hours of fun for small children to adults! Since they are simple they are practically indestructible. The run into things, off tracks, off the table, but flip over if upside down and keep right on going. A new, inexpensive idea made better. Do do come with cases, but if you have the folding track, work well just closed up inside. Each is a different color to so you can pick your favorite.Perfect for the Hexbug Playset.

My 6 year old LOVES nanos and these were no exception. However, the first one he opened had a dead battery. The batteries are almost as expensive as the bugs, so not a pleasant thing to explain to him. Then within 3 days all the others needed to be replaced. Buzz kill.
