Review of Replogle Globes Byrd Illuminated Globe, 16-Inch Diameter

This globe was a birthday gift from my husband. I love it in all but one feature. . . the lighting feature. It really should have a touch-on, touch-off light activation, or a simple on/off switch. The method it has, which is to rotate the globe upside down in one direction or another, doesn't work most of the time. On the other hand, the light has spontaneously come on for no apparent reason. It also comes on if one of the books on the coffee table that the globe is on, is moved. And the light stays on for a pr-set amount of time, which seems to be a waste of battery power. In fact, if all the other features of the globe were not so excellent, I would have rated it at 3 stars. Regardless of the inefficiency of the light mechanism, I would still recommend this globe to anyone looking for an excellent item of this sort.

The globe is beautiful and was packaged appropriately. The globe lacked directions on how to turn on the internal light. We searched on line and found directions, but the globe will not lite up. Battery is included. This was disappointing.

The photo did not do it justice! So easy to set up & a slight tap illuminates it from within. I use it every day to find places mentioned in the news and just to satisfy my curiosity as to where things are. It also has raised mountain ranges! Even the under-ocean trenches are shown. Magnificent globe. So glad I got it.

Very well packaged, good instructions, and it is made in the USA ! It did take two of us to attach the globe to the wood base....one to hold the bolts with pliers and one to tighten with the enclosed allen wrench. We like that feature that the light automatically goes off by itself.

This looks lovely on my desk. my children are fascinated by it, and it gives me an opportunity to give them a geography lesson.
