I purchases this toy for my son's 4th birthday but I think my husband and I play with it just as much as he does. It has a retractable pulley with a clip so you can hook it to the vest or a belt loop. It has a magnifying glass, a compass and a light for morse code. Good quality, light weight and very useful.

I ordered two of these. The compass on one appeared to be un-magnatized and pointed in no particular direction. The other appeared to try to point north, but seemed to drift in other directions. What was worse is that the packaging was obviously non-factory, suggesting that these were both Returns already! Shame for selling defective merchandise. Do not buy this item. Don't take my word for it, read the other 1-Star reviews!

The field compass is a fun toy, but it is not very durable. It last about a week before the clip came off. The kids still use the compass, but they have no way to clip to anything.

My son gave it five stars. He says it looks pretty cool and it does neat stuff. He says it is awesome. He wears it all the time on cub scout hikes and events and used the compass and light when walking the trails at a fright fest we attended.
