2 three inch bar magnets, packaged exactly as indicated, each with clearly indicated poles.
Uses:
Great for school science experiments, demonstrating magnetic lines of force, or just for idly playing with iron filings, paper clips and assorted metallic objects.
Useful for picking up pins and needles, nuts and bolts and anything else made of iron, steel, cobalt etc that you may have dropped.
Caution:
Relatively strong and may give small fingers a little (non-lethal) pinch if they snap together.
One of mine broke in half less than an hour after opening the package (no dropping, hammering, or otherwise untoward shenanigans involved.) On the bright side, I now have THREE magnets instead of two.
Summary:
Recommended for light to occasional use, but not suitable for heavy-duty applications.

I bought these to do some elementary physics with my 9 yr old son for a chapter on magnetism and electricity. Out of the packaging, they both seemed to work well; but after a day of playing with them, we noticed they were much weaker than they had initially been. These magnets have N & S etched onto them. They are a nice size and weight. Children as young as 3 and younger like to experiment with magnets. I bought these for my 10 year old for his Science project to show the North and South poles of magnetism and how they attract and repel. The force in these magnets are strong. They are also good size for his hands.
