This is a darling item and works as advertised. But I hadn't realized that you need to put the handheld "eye" directly on top of the item you wished to magnify, so it won't suit my purposes and I'll return the item. But it is fun and a clever toy.

This microscope exceeded my expectations. My kids are 3 and 5 and can use it with a little help from mom to steady the scope and get a clear picture. The screen is really great and the pictures it takes are amazing. We have looked at just about everything under the sun with this scope and have so many incredible pictures to show for it. You are not limited to things that can slide through a tiny space as on a traditional microscope, the possibilities are endless. I am so pleased with this item and recommend this to anyone who is on the fence. Your kids will love the ability to run around the yard and take pictures of the tree bark, leaves, cement, bugs, flowers, their t shirt, shoelaces, or just about anything they can dream up! We are homeschoolers and this truly is an invaluable resource for our science curriculum. 5 stars!

I bought 2 of these last year after reading the reviews online. I must say, they are as advertised fun, educational, and easy to use. The device comes with a little viewing screen, but it also has a USB drive (included, I was happy to find) which lets you view the microscopic pictures on your computer, with much greater clarity. Very impressive! Keep in mind, these are not industrial-grade microscopes, but if you want to get your kids a little interested in science, they will fit the bill. It does need 5 AA batteries, which are not included. We have plenty of these so it was not a problem.
