I bought it for my son, he es a huge whale fan. The size/scale is incredibly good for his age, it is big enough to impress and small enough to handle. The detail is pretty good, actually the Natural History Museum of San Diego use these for whale watching tours to show people the characteristics of the whale. After receiving this whale I bought the whole whale collection. The only down side is that there aren't many types of whales in this Monterey Bay Collection, I bought same brand but the safari collection and the scale is smaller. I hope Safari LTD will keep making these amazing toys and keep adding other kinds of whales.

I have the whole Monterey Bay collection, and I use them in my science class for teaching about marine animals and their adaptations. These replicas are great! They also make fun toys for kids, but I don't recommend them for young ones (under age 8 or so). These toys are made out of hard plastic. Their fins are pointy. As a result, you will find that kids see them as suitable substitutes for swords and use them in an all-out sibling duel. ;) That leaves the toys looking pretty beat up, and, in my experience, brings on Mom's reproach. You should only buy these for your kids if they are old enough and gentle enough to appreciate them.

Bought this for my 3 year old grandson for Christmas.......he had an overwheming number of gifts but this was his favorite.
