How many people can truly look up at the night sky and tell what specific phase is there and why? :) Whether one is teaching basic moon science, astronomy, moon lore /mythology, art, or critical thinking / observation, one can find many interesting uses for this clever product, which engages visually-oriented, hands-on-learners, the students who learn by seeing and doing. It literally places the moon--its phases--in the learners hands in ways other products cannot. There's a source of pride for the learner who discovers how to "read" the moon; the excitement especially doubles when the learner can apply his / her new knowledge to the moon in the "live" sky.
This moon calendar kit comes with long strips--the individual moon calendar "worksheets" for the students [the illustrations are excellent!]--and four helpful handouts for moon information and calendar creation. [Extra materials note: to color the moon phases on calendars, students will need black markers or crayons. These materials ARE NOT included in the kit. They will need to be provided. Just thought you should know! :) ]
As part of my mythology classes, I like to teach moon lore and moon observation. I like to challenge today's computer /cellphone attached young people to look up at a natural wonder that has captured minds and imaginations of humanity for ages. Interestingly enough, I use this moon calendar project along with "Uncle Milton Moon in My Room" light. Together, they make for an interesting class module--worth doing, worth repeating.
The prompt asked me to declare how durable this product was. I gave three stars because the long strips are like poster paper--hence "worksheets." I am fine with this feature for the purpose of this project. I suppose people could laminate the completed moon-calendars if the users wanted something more permanent.
