I bought this kind of on a whim for my third grade daughter. She has daily homework of reading each day for 20 minutes and I wasn't very consistant with my timing of her. The controls on this are very easy to use after the initial set up and so the timing is really now in her hands. I realize that a kitchen timer would have worked just as well, but this allows her to keep it where her book is and lets her see exactly how long she has been reading. I actually told her teacher and other parents about it at open house night.

The timer has a few modes so that you can choose to count down for those who don't have a desire to read more than the assigned amount, or you can choose to count up for those who are more likely to finish a book or chapter and go over the assigned amount. Controls are easy to use, and the fact that it's a bookmark keeps it with the book being read.

Many people buy these timers for their children but I have discovered that they are also very useful to teachers. I use these digital bookmarks to time the activities we do in class. The timer lets me know in a very discreet manner that the time I have assigned for an activity has elapsed. It's easy to carry it around in the gradebook where it serves an extra purpose of marking the page.

The digital bookmark is very durable. You have the option of exchanging the battery but the batteries the timers are sold with last a very long time.

We like our kids to spend a minimum amount of time reading each night before bed. This bookmark takes the guesswork out of timing their reading. Best of all, they love to use it!

I bought one for my son who loves to read. This one is not as easy to lose as a regular bookmark. It uses an LR1130 button battery. You will need a watch screw driver to open the compartment. It beeps when the time is up. You can set it up as a countdown, count up or cumulative (adds up the time every time you pause and start again). It also is a regular digital clock when timer is not being used. Bubble wrapped. Made in China.

Setting the clock for the first time:

-Press and hold Mode button until all 4 digits blink.

-Press Hrs and Mins to correct time

-Press Mode once to set

Sorry there is no alarm clock function. Alarm (or I should say, beeping) is only for the countdown timer.

Do not lose the instruction. Setting the clock, or setting the timer may be tricky if you forget how to do it.

Top heavy and thicker than a regular bookmark

On setting up the timer, once you make an error by putting a wrong time (if you want 30 minutes but somehow you pressed the hour button), you cannot go backward unless you reset. To reset, you hold the Hour and Min button at the same time for a couple of seconds. Then the timer will go back to zero. Dont worry, it will not reset the clock, just the timer.

My daughter loves this bookmark and it has been an added incentive for her to read! She needs to keep track of her time reading for school and this little bookmark helps her to accurately record her reading-time while at the same time making the keeping-track-of-it-all fun!
