These little writing aides are just plain awesome and perfect for my 9yr son. He is smart as a whip but when it comes to creative writing he goes totally blank. It's easy to use:

There are three sections that flip back and forth on a spiral and he just has to flip through each one and follow the idea hand lands on. Example, you have a sandwich that is rotten and can talk. Definitely good for children to improve their creative writing.

I bought a few of these for my 2nd grader who is struggling a bit with reading and writing. His main issue with writing is coming up with ideas to write about and this solves that problem. Now on evening and weekends he prefers to write a story than to play with toys. He loves flipping through and selecting the character, setting and plot. He writes 1-2 stories a week using these to help him come up with the story. His teacher has even noticed an improvement with his reading and writing skills in just over a month. They are sturdy too, like board books and still look brand new after 2 months.

I teach third grade and I use the Story Starters every week in my classroom. My kids get a character, setting and plot every Monday and then they have the week to come up with their stories. On Friday, they share them with their classmates, and then I collect them all to read over and grade them. I created a simple rubric that I use and it gives me an easy writing grade. The kids love them and it is an easy way for me to constantly monitor their writing skills! The other teachers on my team loved my Story Starter so much that I bought them each one of their own so they would stop stealing mine! They use theirs all the time as well.
