This was so much fun, my second kit this weekend the first one wasElenco SP3B Practical Soldering Project Kit. I am repairing smart devices and game systems with a GQ 5200 rework station I bought on ebay, it was unavailable here and a real nice product made in the USA with a warranty and a bunch of accessories to go with it. It was so much fun to do I am getting more Elenco ProductsElenco Radio Controlled Car Soldering and I am going to do this with my 8yr old son.
The best part about this was when I had to trouble shot it, basically I had to recheck my soldering and make sure I had not made any bridges on the IC's.
Very Rewarding!!!!!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend it.
I am so ready to do many many more Elenco Kits!

Anyone contemplating working with SMT components needs to buy this kit first!!! They are hard to work with and you will need some practice. This kit is a perfect trainer. Get yourself a magnifying glass too. Very nice product.

I did this as my second soldering kit, and it was kind of tedious, as I imagined surface mount to be, but very educational and rewarding. I got a new soldering iron with better temp control and finer tips which helped. The practice section can be infuriating (I fried off a few practice pads before I got the hang of it), but assembly of the actual circuit goes pretty quickly. Elenco did a great job with the instructions and information included. The end product is essentially an electronic magic 8-ball, which is way cooler than a wailing siren! (I still recommend Elenco's siren kit for beginners)

This is a good training tool to get some surface mount solderingcexperience. Its even better in explaining how the circuit works and how to troubleshoot it. High grade training in a hands on package.
