I HAVE NOT YET BOUGHT THIS TOY! I just watched a youtube demonstration of this toy that also discussed it's practical applications. If you are confused by how the toy works, I suggest watching the demonstration.
This is a really nice idea. The kit has the practical purpose of helping teachers identify students who have issues perceiving color, and adjust their teaching according. For example, when showing students differnt syllables in a word, the teacher would write the syllables in different fonts, when formally they would have made them differnt colors.
The kit has the added bonus of showing students how it feels to no perceive colors, and explore how filtering the images makes them visible, and what this means about light, and eyes, and so, and so forth. I am currently in an early childcare setting, but if I ever reenter the elementary field, I will definately invest in this kit.
