These are easy for a toddler to hold. The circles make an easy first puzzle piece because you don't have to match up corners. My 12 month old can slide the matching color circle over the hole until it drops in. The puzzle is very nice, thick, and smooth wood. The only draw back is the puzzle board colors are a sticker you apply. This is to give you the option of not providing this clue and leaving them off.

I don't know what it is about young toddlers and circles. My kids both went through a phase starting around a year old when they only wanted to play with the circles on their shape sorters and puzzles. This one at least taught them something about size and color while satisfying their circle obsession. I credit this toy with teaching my kids to understand and correctly point out red, blue, and yellow (orange and green were harder for some reason). Four stars because it gets a lot less use once they master circles and move on to more complicated shapes.

Love this puzzle, very sturdy and great first puzzle. The knobs are a good size for gripping. The puzzle comes with color inserts for each inset that you can put on or keep off.

Bought this for my son when he was about 16 mths old because he loves circles, and this proved to be a HUGE hit instantly. It was a little pricey, but he really loves it, he is now 18 mths and still one of his favorite toys to play with daily. It teaches colors and the difference between big & small. Very good durable toy. We love the wooden toys and best is that it doesn't take a battery like many other of our toys!!

I first tried a shapes puzzle with multiple shapes for my daughter...but the circle shape was the only one she could master at first, and she would get frustrated with the other shapes. I wish we would have started with this puzzle first and then graduated to the multi-shape puzzle. This puzzle is very high quality, and I love that it helps to show differences in size as well as color.
