I purchased this for my 5 year old son who came unglued when he saw this product. He worked on this for several hours. It was encased in a soft brick in which you could saw, scrape, brush to remove and find the bones. It was easy to put together, is made of a softer plastic so the parts are not brittle and thus don't break easily. It comes with a nice little display with facts on the back which my son uses to play museum. Overall, a very nice set. We have been very satisfied and now own three of these bone sets from Kidz Labs.

I worked on the Triceritops version of this with my 4 year old grand daughter (with a short attention span), and it was great!! For 2 1/2 hours we picked/sawed/sprayed water using a water bottle, and she did not move a except to change tools.
I am purchasing the T-rex & a wolly Mommouth, for the 9 year old grand daughter.
All of the bones are encased in a block of plaster of paris, Use the water option, unless you are practicing for the real thing.
Quality time, learning,,
Regards,,

I bought this for my four year old. The box says recommended 8+, but my four year old was fine with me helping. I wouldn't try any younger through. Definitely run the block of stuff under the faucet for a few minutes and have a misting bottle handy to keep everything damp. (I don't think inhaling clay dust is good for lungs, but if you keep it a bit damp there isn't any noticeable dust.) I put a few layers of newspaper in a cookie tray and set the block of stuff in the middle and let her have at it. The plastic tool has serrations in it and you can use it to saw the clay and it won't hurt the plastic bones when you hit them. I just kept misting the block once in a while and it came apart just right. If you use water the stuff is about the consistency of hard frozen ice cream. It's just about right. Once she unearthed all the bones we washed them off with an old toothbrush in the sink (don't loose any parts down the drain) and put it together. The bones are a little flexible, so they don't break and can be pushed together (light press fit, my four year old could do it) to form a standing skeleton. My four year old and two year old both think the movable jaw is great, the like to make roaring sounds. The little cardboard display stand was a nice extra, my daughter appreciated it more than I thought she would. She said "just like in a museum!" Downsides is the block and the skeleton are a little small (about 6" high, 9" nose to tail, we'll have to keep it up out of reach of the younger ones), but for the money would really couldn't ask for more. Nice way to spend a few hours with your budding paleontologist. I helped quite a bit with the unearthing. Someone a little older with more patience could spend quite a bit more time unearthing them more carefully if you wanted too. If you do it in a brownie pan you can put it away and pick it up again easily if you want to spread if over several settings. I'll probably end up buying more of them.
