The illustrations and colors on this item are truly vibrant and adorable and they cover a lot of educational content (with fun sounds and songs). This "book" fixes many problems of previous touch books by LeapFrog, Fisher Price, and VTech, by making it so your little one cannot pull the "book" our of the "reading system" and they've also fixed a problem in prior similar items because your child can't continually hit different items to cut the sounds off the first item hit. With this item, once the child's finger presses a touch spot (and there are many!), the device will continue to finish up the sound for that touch spot before it allows your child to hit on another spot (to avoid the "rap-like" effect of similar versions from the early 2000s). Believe me this is a great feature. The only drawback is since there is no way to pull the "book" out, there aren't interchangeable titles so the device is limited to the four pages. However, they have packed a lot of games, songs, and other features into those four pages for a reasonable price at fifteen bucks and you're also spared the cost of having to buy lots of add-ons. If your toddler has been playing with your tablet though, this might not capture his or her interest as it's not backlit and obviously not as high tech but it is a fun, educational toy which would be great to take on long car rides.

I bought this for my 18 month old daughter and she loves the interaction and the music. She is a bit young for the games, but I love that this toy is going to grow with her. I didn't really know what type of games to expect, because I bought it before Amazon did their in-depth review, so I was surprised when I was checking it out, touched the bus and was told to find the way for the bus to get to the school. Very cool. My 4 year old daughter likes to play the games on it too, so I'm hoping to get a few years of play from it. My initial reason for getting this toy, is that I thought that this would be great for the babe to play with on car trips, because although she is an expert at finding the games or shows she wants to watch on the iPad, she doesn't understand that some things won't work in the car because there's no internet connection, and when she gets frustrated, she screams and throws things, as most 1.5 year olds do. I feel a lot better about giving her the Discovery Town to play with in the car because it is durable and light-weight, and throwing it to the floor is not going to damage it.

Although as another reviewer said, it is self-contained with only 4 pages, I feel that the variety of games and music make it well worth the price, especially from Amazon. Give this one a try, you won't be disappointed.

My son loves leapfrog characters, and music and following directions.(I know,I know...I'm lucky).so this was a gift for his 3rd birthday. He is on the A.S.spectrum& limited verbally, but gifted cognitively.he loves to dance to the songs, mainly the firegirl, and he likes finding the different places when prompted.but after a couple days, he has everything mastered already & the appeal is just about gone for him.I thought this would have more to do& he would like it longer.he does get frustrated when there is only 1 'page' to flip as it has the look of there being other pages.in the end...this is definitely best for kids ages 1yr to 2yrs in my opinion.

Honest reviews on LeapFrog Touch Magic Discovery Town

I purchased this LeapFrog Touch Magic Discovery Town for my daughter's second birthday. She's always trying to get her hands on Mommy's iPad, so I thought she'd like the touchscreen aspect of this toy. However, she grew bored with it after about 5 minutes. Not that I could blame her. There's really not that much to this toy, especially given what it costs. If you tap a few areas on either of the 2 pages, the toy's computer-voice tells you what you're touching, and then plays the sound it makes. (There's also an option to play a very limited selection of music). That's about it. What's more, this toy also frustrated my daughter because the touchscreen function isn't very sensitive. In fact, it took me a few tries at pressing pretty hard to get some of the touchscreen items to respond! Plus, there were many other pictures on the screen that my toddler kept wanting to press in order to hear the voice/sounds, and she was very disappointed when she would press a picture and nothing happened. And, as you might imagine, it was impossible to explain to a 2 year-old why she would get the voice/sounds when she pressed one picture, but nothing when she pressed another picture. Since toys are supposed to be fun and not annoying, this one is being returned.
