What was originally intended to be something small and rather insignificant to go along with larger gifts that I had purchased, this item turned out be a real hit. The joy experienced from breaking the geodes and subsequently sharing the experience with family and friends, overshadowed every other gift. Terrific value. I am happy to report that none of the rocks were duds.

My son loves rocks, shells, gems... He collects them (12 year old). These, he loves them so much, and were marveled at such a high degree, that he didn't want to crack them open all so soon, to treasure them as much as possible! And no wonder, since it is an amazing view what is inside these meteor-allien-looking rocks! Each rock is a surprise, and will have different crystals and other minerals inside. And best of all, they are completely natural, a marvelous invention treasure-chest-like coming directly from Nature.

I was VERY pleased with the geodes. This item was purchased for a homeschooling unit on rocks for my kinesthetic son to have some fun! I was a little concerned that we would have some duds, but every single one had a beautiful array of crystals inside. Even better was that each one had different coloration inside, which the kids loved. The directions say to put inside of a sock, then strike with a hammer. That did NOT work. I had my son put on some safety goggles, and he had to hit them right on with a hammer. That worked liked a charm. Wonderful learning tool.

After reading reviews I was waiting for the let down. The picture is misleading, BUT these were full of crystals and about the size of a medium egg, one was a little smaller. If your child loves rocks they would like these and for $10 really a great buy. Only complaint, they were very difficult to break for our 7 yr old. But with cement outside and a hammer I broke the smaller one in one whack. (don't do them inside I cracked my tile LOL yes this is normal for me!) And truthfully I'm not sure what people are expecting for $10, Large Geodes are very expensive. These were well worth the $ and I would order them again as gifts. The company was very prompt with shipping and in very nice condition when they arrived.

I purchased these geodes as a gift for my father-in-law. He was thrilled with them! We got a nice assortment of sizes ranging from dime-sized to half-dollar. We used a wet saw to cut them in half which ended up giving us 2 beautiful geodes! I couldn't imagine using a chisel and hammer as the instructions suggest. I would imagine that the smaller ones may shatter/crumble. This was a great family experience to cut these open and see what was inside!
