I bought this to help my students keep on track during group activities. I've only used it twice so far, but each time the sounds were too soft for my students to hear over their conversations. The lights work but only if the kids are looking at the board. As this was billed as an educational resource I figured that it would work in a normal class setting but unfortunately I'm not really loving it so far. It's not easy to program, it is too quiet, and it is small. I do really like that magnetic capability, however. Sticking it on my whiteboard makes it easier to see for all my students than on a desk where only the kids near it can see it. I would not buy this again, but for the low price I paid I can't really be unhappy about the fact it is more of a toy than a tool.

We bought Learning Resources Magnetic Time Tracker to use as a timer for my son who is almost 4 and has Autism . We were all tired of the endless hassles involved in trying to get ready to go out, go to bed, and so on.

It has worked remarkably well. Now I can start the timer a half hour before we leave for preschool, and he knows when he has to start hurrying, and also realizes when she doesn't yet have to. When it announces "Time's up!", he knows that we're *going*.

Strong points are that the timer is colorful and attractive, and gives feedback in several ways. I can look at the digital display and know exactly how much time is left. My son can see the green, yellow, and red lights, and know roughly where she stands. The flashes before the color changes and the programmable audible feedback are very helpful, too. It just gives a lot of different ways for us to understand how much time is left.

The main bonus is that the controls ! There is both a manual and an automatic mode, but they are both pretty similar. One means you set the amount of time for each phase, along with the optional sounds. The other means you set the total time, and the percentage of the total for each phase. Once you have a standard one set, you can reuse it (which is good for our 30-minute morning routine), but if you need to change it (like this morning, I only had 20 minutes) you have to do some button-pushing, and you need to choose the sounds for each phase as well as the time.

My guess is that we'll eventually settle on a couple of standard programs and just leave it at those. It's well worth using, regardless, but the awkwardness of the controls keeps me from giving this five stars.

This item has definitely reduced the stress level on all sides. There is less nagging, less fussing, and more cooperation.

The one thing I wish it would have is a sound that is a bit louder because this is magnetic I put it on my fridge and I then have to take it will me to remind him time is up. If it was louder he could hear it in the next room and know.

I thought this would be the perfect solution for my almost-3 year old who's dealing with some sensitivity issues. The ability to use visual indicators with sound being optional is fantastic! However, I ran into some hurdles while using it.

Pros:

---> Brilliant to make this magnetic with a kickstand that you can use on a flat surface.

---> Sensory-friendly product because it has visual indicators with an optional warning alert and a sound indicator, also optional.

Cons:

---> When I was setting the timer, the entire display went dim so that I couldn't see the numbers. But then when I come back to the clock function, the display was normal again. I assumed this was a defect and returned it.

---> The LED lights that turn on when you're using the timer function were weak -not bright enough to be seen in a room that is well lit. If it's a sunny room, it'd be even more difficult to tell whether they're on or off.

---> The clock function doesn't add anything to the time tracker because the display itself is so small that the clock is hard to read unless you're right in front of the product. However, because this timer is both a clock and a timer, having both makes using either function much more cumbersome in terms of navigating the menus and button pushing. The features could easily be separated out if it's important to keep both in the product.

---> The instructions were confusing. There are two main buttons that you must press for major functions -the green one and the red one. However, when I read the instructions, I initially couldn't get some things to work because it referred to the ENTER button. Soon I figured out that sometimes pressing ENTER meant the green button, but other times it meant the red one. Hopefully the instructions can be clarified as this is an easy fix.

Honest reviews on Learning Resources Magnetic Time Tracker

I bought this hoping that when my class saw the 5 or 10 minute yellow warning sign that it may keep them on task more. They seem to love the timer. The noises are quiet so during literacy centers they can't really hear the timer go off but they know its time to switch because of the red light. I keep it at my teaching table behind me though so I can hear it. It honestly helps me more than anyone in the class. I also have it set in the morning once children are coming into the building so they know how much time there is until morning announcements/needing to have morning work complete.

This is a great product with a lot of options. You can put it on a desktop, use it on something magnetic, or hang it on the wall. Lights display in the red, yellow, or green area depending on the time and you can set the timer up to as much as 24 hours. You can also choose to set the audible alarm reinforcing the visual factor. It's sturdy, doesn't take up much room, and is a great choice to use in a classroom, homeschool, and especially with special needs kids that need routine. I reviewed this item.
