We bought 9 sets of these for my son's birthday party. The kids built the cars inside and then we took them outside to race. They had lots of fun, got wet and sticky, but I wish I had known a few things:
1. Once you pull the red pin to let the mentos into the bottle, you need to keep holding it upright and count to 2 before laying it down to zoom away. Otherwise the mentos get shot back out and the car doesn't go more than a few feet. It took us several tries (and bottles of coke) to figure this out.
2. The car doesn't go very far on a rough (street) surface. Making a track out of cardboard or something else would have really improved the experience.
3. Always use the maximum number of mentos.
4. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't get the car to go more than 3 feet with air pressure and water. And we followed the directions very, very thoroughly.
5. The bottle that it comes with is basically useless (since the water/air pressure thing didn't work) the kids spent time decorating it and then were disappointed they didn't get to use them.
We built a ramp for these cars to jump off of. I was impressed at how well they held up the wheels sometimes came off but nothing broke.
I don't know if these will ever get used again but it made for a great science party for a small group.

This is a great teaching toy. This is easy to assemble and works well. The components are simple, but effective.
