My son has the original snap circuit unit. He bought this as an add-on. It is really educational and so fun. He can record any sound from his voice to our cats meow. He finds it really hilarious. When friends come over they want to make up new combinations too.

I bought the 500-part SnapCircuits years ago but my oldest weren't attracted too much to it. My daughter is now eighteen and my son 16.

But now my 10 and 8-old kids are enjoying and making experiments with it. I upgraded the set and also bought this recorder set. And also the Snaptricity and the one that comes with a container for a liquid-based battery. To my surprise one day found them playing with their friends and my children giving them "instructions" on to build a proper circuit. Not all the fun is in video games; to my relief.

I gave this to my nine grandson for his birthday. He already has the large snap circuit assembly kit and he immediately said I have all these pieces already. He assembled it in ten minutes and recorded for about two minutes then was done playing with it. His six year old sister did record for about eight minutes but that was it. Save your money if your child already has a large snap circuit kit.

We love snap circuits. This is the only one that I have anything bad to say about. Easy to set up. Easy to record. A little disappointed that it only records for 8 seconds although not a big deal. When you finish playing back your recording it goes into a medley of Christmas tunes. To stop hearing the Christmas tunes you press the record button, as per instructions, and then it automatically begins recording again. If this just recorded your voice and played it back I would be very satisfied. It may not bother everyone but for me this degraded the product significantly.

There is no educational value in this product either. No explanation of how or why it does anything. For the few dollars more, get the 100 kit which has great books and 100 projects for your child to complete.

It says that there are 3 other projects. 1 is to erase the recordings you make. It automatically does this every time you press the 'push ' button. Another reduces the volume. There is no explanation of the reasoning behind any of it. Give it a pass.

My grandsons had a ball recording their own voices and playing them back, but I was a little disappointed that it would only play 3 pre recorded songs and that they could not make their own songs (other than singing them into the toy). They still had fun being goofy with it, but not for long.
