I have mixed feelings about this product. My 20 month old daughter plays with it alot and seems to enjoy it. My complaint is that the snaps, buttons and shapes can all be removed (and lost and amazingly return) from the book. The plastic buckle on the buckle page was removed by my daughter within weeks. I've read reviews about how this book is great for the car and other types of travel. However, the pieces often fall to the floor of the car and most times cannot be retreived. The button page does not allow for both the button and button hole to be held, which doesn't emulate actual buttoning. The ballons that snap onto their page do not have any indication of where to line up or press the snap into place. I've already ordered another set of books where the pieces remain with the book.

Buy My Quiet Book, Fabric Activity Book for Children
We were in the market for a way for our 4 year old to practice buttoning, tieing, snapping, etc., in the car and at church. Although several of the reviews were concerned about the myriad of small parts that could be lost, we decided to take a chance. Perhaps the manufacturer has heard their complaints, as our version has all the pieces attached with strings, so nothing has gotten lost. Though I'm sure very young children could pull them off if they wanted to, it has stood up to our 2 and 4 yr. old boys beautifully!

VTech - Baby's Learning Laptop Review

As our 15 months old has taken a keen interest to my laptop, we felt this would b nice alternative. Turns out, not really, they know the difference. Still, this is a fun toy for the little ones.
Essentially this unit makes an assortment of music, sounds and interacts with keyboard input. Two volume levels are present and we find the lower setting to be perfect as it can get a bit loud on the higher setting. There are plenty of voices, sounds, and music to keep things from getting too repetitive. There is also a little mouse that-well-is shaped like a mouse, that can be moved up ,down, left ,and right with a corresponding voice stating the movement. The mouse is attached to the unit and cannot be removed so nothing can be lost or swallowed.
Durability is very good on this item with no small items that can break off or removed for consumption or chocking ( This is of primary concern for us as it should be for all).
One thing to watch out for and as another reviewer stated, is my boy closes the lid on his fingers or hand. Now for some reason after he closes the lid he places all of his 8 month old might into ensuring it is closed. So I would not walk away and leave him long with it alone as who knows how much pressure it takes for him to feel it. So far he has not injured himself and he has not cried or made any other type of commotion -yet. Just something to watch out for. I am sure if it really hurt he would stop but I am a paranoid father.
EDIT: Well, my boy finally did push too hard and hurt himself with his finger inside the lid. No damage to either finger or toy but something to look out for.
Now my boy does tend to get bored easily and this item is no different. In fact now when I open the screen and play with it with him, he just casually reaches over and closes the screen-often. I think my wife taught him that so that I would do the same with my own laptop.
The toy itself is great and though no where near the sophistication of the real thing it certainly did not cost as much or as dangerous either (he pulled the L key off my laptop keyboard).
Battery life so far is very good with the unit being used everyday for 3 weeks and no sign of weakness. This is a relief as some toys eat through batteries very quickly and things get costly over time as the good batteries are not exactly cheap. We tend to go through 10-15 batteries a week in his other items such as rockers, toys, etc..
Oh, how I envy him and his simple laptop; no investments, no news, no work emails, no etc.... just lights, music, and sound.
Our boy really does enjoy the time with this toy and though he seems now to be more fascinated with closing the lid than anything else there are times he enjoys just slamming his fist at the keyboard and looking up at the screen. Now THAT he did get from daddy! ;)
She does love it, and bangs on the "keyboard" just as she bangs on mine the lights and sounds are great love that it has an OFF button so many toys don't!
However, she also loves to bite on anything she can get her hands on including this toy laptop. While trying to use her left hand to pull the cover down into her mouth, the right hand was caught and pinched between the lid and the keyboard. The plastic is shaped in a way which hurts even when I closed the toy on my own thumb to test it.
I recommend parents do not let their child play with this toy unless you can literally sit there and stare at them the entire time. VTech would be wise to put some sort of safety on the lid of this toy.
One more thing at the time of writing this, the price on Amazon is 39.99, which seems rather steep to me, considering I just bought this for 9.99 at Toys R US. So it might be worth your while to do some comparison shopping before you spring for it at this price.

We bought this for our son when he was 6 months old because he is always wanting to play with our computer. All the other toy laptops I've seen are for older babies/toddlers so we got this one. He is having a lot of fun with it and it's a great toy. He really likes pressing the buttons and hearing the songs, and opening and closing it. There are three modes, and right now he likes the music best. There are two volume levels which is nice. It's very durable. The only issue I have is that he keeps closing the laptop on his fingers. It doesnt really hurt him, but does pinch his fingers a bit. He's learning now to get his fingers out of the way! I think he'll like this toy for a long time.Honest reviews on VTech - Baby's Learning Laptop
My son (like most kids) is totally fascinated by adult laptops I got this with the hope that he might leave mine alone, but he isn't easily fooled. However, he has spent time being absorbed with this toy. He likes pushing all those buttons, and the movable mouse is nice too. It has 3 modes the one that plays the music jingles seems to be his favorite. Personally, I don't think it has much learning utility. There are better educational toys out there. But hey, when a kid needs a laptop, he needs a laptop. One more thing at the time of writing this, the price on Amazon is 39.99, which seems rather steep to me, considering I just bought this for 9.99 at Toys R US. My son got this as a gift at around 4 months old. After hours of screaming while we were out of town meeting family for dinner, he instantly stopped when this got turned on, and proceeded to stare at it for the next hour of dinner and start of the drive home until he fell asleep (of course at that point I had to keep turning the music back on, but hey, can't argue with quiet!). He went through a phase where he just kept shutting the lid, which seemed to be great fun for him (although it was several months until he could also OPEN the lid too). He also went through a phase of trying his best to bend the lid all the way backwards, which I think is what finally did it in. Now that he's a year, it still works great MOST of the time. Once in a while it starts sounding like a broken record, it just gets stuck in a loop. My guess is that in the bending it backwards process, he loosened a wire or something. Like I said, most of the time it still works great, it still holds his attention. You've got to figure no matter how durable something is, after 8 months of banging, drooling in, chewing on, and bending backwards, just about anything's going to have problems! Also, battery life it pretty good. Haven't had to change them yet.Thursday, October 16, 2014

I ordered the Zometool DNA kit to begin constructing their model. Inside the Jar is a large fold out in color with instructions numbered (1) through (7) for constructing the model.
I had some questions about this model, and I called their offices in Colorado and they offered to mail me some parts for free. The person I spoke to was very, very helpful, and took the time to resolve my problem.
Zomes construction for the DNA DOUBLE HELIX begins by pairing up the Nucleotides. The outer spiralling Helixes are built and a central Zome vertical Pillar is constructed for support. In the last step, the central Pillar pieces are removed, and the Zome Model stands vertical upon a table etc.
I liked the Zome people and I liked their product.
It is interesting, that I have had phone contact with the suppliers of several of these educational models. I think it is a nice way to learn something about the quality of the product, by surveying the quality of the company producing it and marketing it.
I can recommend Zome's DNA model highly. The Internet has some excellent instruction on the Nucleotides and the Double Helix.

.This DNA kit helped with hands on visual of what DNA looks like. It helps for understanding of the components. The only thing I was disappointed in was the photo shows a full container and the container was really only half full of parts. My 13yr put it together without instructions in less than 15 minutes. He did say however that it was a good teaching tool.

what can I say... it's a guitar strap, fun? Durable? Educational? Not sure these apply but it makes the guitar a bit more fun to play and pretend, durable it's nylon and plastic but if used properly should last. Educational? I'm not sure this applies as educational lol but it was worth the $$$
It looks cool. But would NOT have paid what I did for it if I had known it was simply a plain ole guiter strap. He doesn't need it with these fake guiters.

I got this for my four year old daughter. She absolutely loves it. Luckily it has a volume control on it. She always loved to watch my husband play Guitar Hero and now she can use her guitar to play next to him.

This was a gift purchased for my 4 year old daughter, 2 years ago. She & her two younger sisters still play with this and it has held up beautifully. It may seem cheap at first (but really what play-guitars don't) but for the low price it is more than worth it! The thing is, most toy guitars are too preschoolish and are very quiet, or you have to spend a lot of money to get something else. The thing that stands this guitar above all others is the actual music it plays. It actually has a good "rock beat" and a whammy bar that gives it that extra rock flavor. I have not seen any other toy-guitars that sound like this. The bonus is the strap that it has also. The batteries last forever in it and it has been one of those toys that have kept well for a length of time. It has been a hit with all our girl's friends and families and has made for a great gift for other little girls too!Best Deals for Moxie Girlz Jammaz Guitar
Bought the guitar for my 5 yr old daughter. She loves it! We've only had it for a couple days now, but I've liked what I've seen so far. It was a great price and great for her age. So many toy guitars are Barbie, Sesame Street or some other character themed guitar with silly songs. This is a generic brand guitar with authentic sounding music playing. I highly recommend this toy for other kids who have outgrown sesame street, and want something a little more like the "real thing".Honest reviews on Moxie Girlz Jammaz Guitar
She had been asking for it for a year. She was thrilled when she opened the gift. The luster faded after a few weeks although she still gets it out when they play rock band. Her sisters enjoy it too, occasionally. Not really an everyday toy for us.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Moxie Girlz Jammaz Guitar

Out of the box, this toy was a big hit. It was so neat that touching other people made music (or percussive sounds, or animal noises) and my son loved it. He kept wanting to poke my nose, touch my arms, touch my legs. He experimented with tapping fast and slow, and cycled through all the different sounds. Touched me AND my husband at once, then touched us in succession.
But then he was done with it.
And he hasn't been interested in the toy since.
The problem is that it has lost its novelty and really, that's all this toy has going for it. There's no imagination involved, no creative process going on. It's not an open-ended toy at all.
So now, it just sits on his book shelf. I've tried to entice him to play with it but no luck so far.
Oh well.
If you have one hand on a contact point and touch another contact point with the other hand then it will still make the sound. If playing with others you have to be sure to touch their skin in order for it to work.
When the setting is on a musical song it will play each note when you touch someone, but when it gets to a certain point it will stop and you have you set it up again. If playing it on the instrument sound setting or the animal sound setting, then it will stay on unless it has not been played with for a couple minutes and then it will turn off on its own.
There is no power switch that I am aware of it turns off on it's own after a few minutes if not in use.

My son loves this game! My son has Down syndrome, Autisum and Bi-Polar Mania, as well as other medical issues. Even though he has a very difficult time focusing on anything, and is non-verbal, he does love the "Wiggles" and this game encourages him to learn letters and numbers as well as fine tune his motor skills and planning. I was amazed to see how well my son does with this game. I wish I had gotten this for him years ago.
I highly recommend this game and wish VTech would make more new "Wiggles" games!

Lowercase Letters (Teaching Tiles) Review
We're teaching our daughter to read, and it was really difficult to illustrate that "top" is the same as "stop" just with an extra letter added on the front. These tiles are perfect for that, since we can arrange and re-arrange them, and she gets to participate in the process and sound out the different parts of the word and then join them together. There's a great variety of letters so we're not sorting around to find a "b" or an "r" and we store them in a little plastic container when not in use. Love these.

We received this toy as a baby shower gift for our now 4 month old son. At first, he loved this toy. It was his favorite out of all his many other toys. I was looking at it, and saw a white speck on the coys "pink" face, as I tried to rub it off, the pink paint CAME WITH IT!!!!!! The cows mouth & hooves are actually paint!! And they rub off so easily that it would take nothing for my son to get the paint off with his mouth and swallow it. I think this is a horrible product, WHY WOULD A COMPANY MAKE A BABY TOY WITH PAINT?! It's really such a shame too because my son really did love this toy. I wouldn't reccommend this to anyone.

I like the Thames and Kosmos products in general and have ordered several. They provide a sequence of experiments that focus on teaching key concepts in their areas. The experiments are written in a small booklet with not just information on the experiment, but with background on the field in which the experiment occurs.
My daughter really likes this perfume kit. There are several elemental oils and then some other factors needed to mix different kids of perfume. The experiments starts with learning how to incrementally mix perfumes, to keep notebooks, to emphasize observation (smelling and comparing) and gives references to other ways of making perfume (from flowers, ancient extraction methods, etc.).
My daughter has a range of interests, though they tend toward arts and crafts. This kit is a nice way to bridge those preferences into enjoying and experiencing science. From this kit, we've graduated into chemistry kits and other experimentation (electronics). It's been a nice way for me as a dad/scientist to build that relationship on a scientific level with my daughter. My wife appreciates having her daughter be multidimensional, and is happy to step back and let me do these learning experiences with the kids.
While the kit is labeled for certain age groups, the first time the children do the experiments, it has always been necessary for me with these Thames and Kozmos kits (an adult) to do it with them. This means reading the book for them, and keeping them on track, working through the experiments, and talking through the concepts. If the kids were to be handed the kit to navigate on their own, they would go nowhere the book would be too tough, and the concepts while organized so that an adult can plainly see how they relatewill be tough to pick up. They open the kit and start fiddling with the tools and putting them together in unusual ways; also a cognitively interesting activity, but not one that would lead them to making the conceptual discoveries that the kit strives for.
Still I think that's just right. I want to teach my kids these concepts. These kits are a nice way to spend time together with the kids, 1:1. In a way these kits serve as a very convenient shortcut for me they gather the materials, organize the lesson plans, and package them in an appealing way.
Then once I go through the experiments, I find the kids have internalized the concepts and integrate them into their play vocabulary. And they can now pull the kits down to repeat the experiments on their own, or then combine the elements to try new discoveries. In this case of the perfume kit, my daughter now pulls it down as needed to mix up new batches or to try her own experiments (e.g., extracting oil from rose petals).

For the holidays I got this for a relative and they loved it. Not the most sophisticated gear but this is fun to play around with scents for younger ones.Honest reviews on Sophisticated Science Perfume Science
I bought this as Christmas gift for my daughter who's 11 years old, and is trying to find her perfume smells. She's been using my fragrances, her little sisters, and just wanting anything that she sees on the market. When I asked her what type of scents does she like, she couldn't answer. Although my daughter hasn't used it yet, she's excited to experiment with making her own and zoning in on favorite scents. So because of her excitement and enthusiasm as well as the chemistry of it, I'm rating it as like it.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sophisticated Science Perfume Science
My granddaughter is getting into science and really liked this kit. I'm sure she will be making more. We did wish there was a small funnel for filling the bottles though.Friday, August 1, 2014
Boikido Wooden Push And Play - Mouse Wagon Review
We gave this to my daughter on Christmas even though she wasn't able to walk yet. When she was finally walking & able to push it around, one of the wheels kept coming off... as the wheel spins, it unscrews the wheel and it falls off! It's a terrible design. Problem is, we were unable to return it because it was passed the return date since she didn't start walking until a couple months after the return date. So I have a brand new, unusable wagon sitting in the garage. Total waste of money.
If the wheel didn't unscrew and come off all the time it would have been a nice toy for her.
The wagon was well packed and all parts complete. The directions were a little hard for me to follow but they tried to spell them out simply, and the pictures helped. I love this push wagon, it's colors and the size.
I heartily recommend it!
If they could fix the wheels this would be an awesome wagon.

This is a very cute wagon, however, the wheels are not functional. When my daughter pushes it, the front wheels loosen up and the back wheels tighten up. It's now just sitting in the corner collecting dust.If they could fix the wheels this would be an awesome wagon.
