My 3 year old son loves this toy. He imagines it as many different things and enjoys building with it. My 10 month old also enjoys playing with it.

This toy is a must! Why?1. It's beautiful, like a work of art. And any way the child "stacks 'em up" looks cool and creative!
2. It's a stacking toy, but because of the lovely shapes, colors and alternate holes, the child can be creative in how he/she stacks the parts.
3. The toy is exquisitely well-made, durable.
4. It's non-toxic and made out of eco-friendly rubber wood. (It's not rubber!) I cannot say enough about Plan Toys. (see bottom of my post)
5. It's a keepsake or heirloom hand-made-down.
6. The pieces are light enough and shaped in such a way that when the child throws the pieces (and he/she will throw them at some point) they should not severely injure anyone.

I am so glad I bought this for my son. He started playing with it when he was 12 months old. It was a tad more complicated for him than his regular stacking toy. However, he is now 14 months old and has learned how to stack this slightly more complex stacking toy. He also uses the pieces individually as a cell phone. And occasionally puts the pieces into his dump truck and has the truck cart them around.
Overall, it's one of the best purchases we have made for our son. I love that it has no bells and whistles and yet he finds it interesting and stimulating.
Here's my 2 cents on Plan Toys:
Plan is the only Eco-friendly toy manufacturer to pass and receive the E0 Standard certification (E-Zero is the highest safety standard of exposure to formaldehyde in wooden products or toys). Based in Thailand, Plan Toys supports safe working environments, emphasizes sustainable development, guarantees fair wages, offers no discrimination and no use of child labor. As well, their toys are made of replenished sustainable Rubberwood* in their own factory so they can control the entire process from wood selection, to manufacturing, to shipping. A natural kiln-dry process is used in place of chemical treatment to preserve and stabilize the wood thus making the products preservative-free. Only natural, non-toxic water-based dyes are used. The paints have been tested by independent labs and found to be safe for children and for the surrounding environment.
* After the economic life of the rubber tree (30 years) the latex that it yields becomes extremely low and the planters then fall the tree to plant new ones. So, unlike other woods that are cut down for the sole purposed of producing furniture, Rubberwood is used only after it completes its latex producing cycle and dies.

Despite a great overall idea my childnever really got into playing with this much. She had fun here and there but not a favorite toy.
