I used this as a touch and feel visual for my middle school students as we were studying silk and the Silk Road. They could see each stage and the size of the silkworm and cocoon. Use it with the related excerpt from the Wild China movie for a full understanding of the production of silk.

We already had 4 other life cycle sets from Insect Lore and they are great. This set is very pretty and clear too except for one thing: on the leave with the eggs there are also little caterpillars. thereby mixing up stage 2 and stage 1.

(we also just bought the praying mantis. That is even worse. There are little nymphs with the eggs and a little nymph crawling over the pupa. Maybe that really happens, but as life cycle teaching tool, this is confusing.)
