This microscope is more than adequate for what I use it for and it is priced low enough to make it the best for the money.
It is very easy to set up and use. There have been some complaints about instructions but there should have been a piece of paper in with the product to give the exact website for the manual. You can also go to AmScope website and download it. There are some small screws on the underside of the eyepiece that are very fine Phillips head. You need to loosen these in order to change lenses or install the camera. This camera is also usable on Windows 8 as long as you install the drivers for the camera before you plug it in. There are instructions on the installation that tell you when to plug in the USB cable. Since I have both AmScope and OMAX microscopes, I found that the software for the OMAX also works well with this microscope and a small hand-held scope. Some of the other scopes offer more magnification range, but remember that you are only going to see on the computer what comes through the camera. It will not be the same magnification as what you see through the eye piece and if you are doing detailed work, you will need to calibrate the camera. There are other more expensive microscopes with controlled stage movement that may be better for your use, so make sure to do your homework. AmScope and OMAX are pretty competitive in the biological microscopes but AmScope gives more bang for the buck in the binocular and metallurgical ones.

This microscope was a higher quality piece of equipment than the price implied. It is on a par with those having a price more than double this unit. The company was easy to deal with, having purchased a different model earlier. Issues with the earlier cameras compatibility caused the return. I bought this microscope to photograph my graded coin collection. The lowest setting was way too detailed to even see the entire coin, let alone the holder. The software for Macintosh would not load onto my computer, apparently because it is third party software that my MacBook Pro home computer will not allow to be loaded, no matter what preferences I tried to adjust. If you work on a PC, there is an enclosed CD, and I assume it will load, but be prepared for intricate and intimate images that magnify about 1/8 inch diameter of the coin...that's on the 10X magnification. The instructions are minimal and very sketchy at best, and no information is given on how to load the included digital camera. I contacted the company, they emailed me two different web sites from which to download the Mac software, and neither worked. Other than this glitch, I'm sure it's a great microscope if you want to examine the molecular structure of the metal, but otherwise unusable. I assumed that a 30X loupe would be the same as a 30X microscope, but this is not the case. Even at 10X, it's way too detailed. It might be usefulI to closely examine a doubled die 'D' or 'D' over 'S' or the like, but I could find no way to view the entire coin, even a Dutch dime, which is about 7MM or 8MM in diameter. Admittedly, I have never used a microscope before, and based on this experience, probably never will again. If you know your way around a microscope, maybe you could get it to work...I had no luck whatsoever. And the Mac software is NOT on the CD, the web site's software will NOT load on a Mac. I had high expectations, hoping to avoid the cost of hiring a professional photographer to photograph my entire collection, but this is what I ended up doing. Wow, this item far exceeded my expectations as to quality of craftsmanship and price. The real value was in the service I received after having had a small mixup in the shipping of the item. The company service rep "Peter" has been very exceptionally helpful. The quality of the images is of the highest quality. The camera which is included adds even more to the value.
