I got this model for my daughter who is needing help in science class. She learns better when she has something to put together. The kit helped her get interested in science class. She said she actually learned something while putting it together. Actually, I didn't fully appreciate the subtleties of the shapes of the nucleotides and phosphates before helping my daughter assemble this model. It is also sturdy, not a toy!

This model saved my grade in Biochem--finally understood the difference between the major and the minor groove! The only disadvantage to this model is that is impossible to distinguish the 5' end of the strand from the 3' end, so the directionality of DNA is not really illustrated. The phosphate groups are (correctly) tetrahedral, but the model places them into the backbone in such a way that it appears that the 5-membered rings are connected by two atoms, whereas in reality there are three.

I was surprised at just how well this model is constructed. The parts are plastic and rubber and fit together very tightly (center rod is steel). Instructions were both easy to follow and informative. A sturdy wood base would make this perfect, but I'm very pleased. I purchased the model for my desk, not as a teaching aid that will be dismantled and reconstructed repeatedly. It would likely be fine for that, too.

This product has been excellent to teach DNA structure in molecular biology to college students. The material is very good, but I'd like to know if you make deliveries outside US, I'm from Mexico and I want to acquire more kits. Thanks!
