My grandson just turned one, and we gave him this as one of his gifts. He was already a Mickey Mouse fan because his 4 year old sister is a Mickey Mouse fan. The colors and pictures on the blocks have kept him enthralled.

He did catch a finger between two of the rows almost as soon as he unwrapped this and started playing with it, but he wasn't hurt, and we noticed after that time that he was more gentle in pushing the blocks to make them spin. If there was going to be an improvement made to the design, it would be to space the rows just another half inch apart, but my grandson thinks it's perfect as it is.

Our daughter (2 and a half) received this as a gift, and when we first opened it, I didn't really expect it to get much attention. But I was wrong. Our daughter really enjoys it, and has already learned a few new words from it.

This is an abacus style toy in the style of those from decades ago. Each block spins on the dowel for its row. One side has a letter (A-Z), or number (1-4), and the other has a word that begins with the letter and a picture representing it. The numbers blocks have the number of items on the back. It is very colorful, and our daughter likes to flip the blocks back and forth looking at the letters and words. She already knows her alphabet, so having the additional words helps add to her vocabulary, and having the letters in order is a good way to remind her of the ABC order. It is made of seemingly durable wood, and should hold up for quite a while.

The minor shortcomings are:

Quality Control The version we got already had broken chunks out of it that had been painted over, so this was factory damage that they painted, and still chose to ship.

Balance It isn't heavy, and has a narrow base, so doesn't stand up well on its own. When it does, it has to be supported in order to spin the blocks, or it will get knocked over. So it gets a lot of play laying down.

Otherwise, it is still played with a lot, and despite its shortcomings, the attention it gets can't be negated. An educational, durable toy that needs no batteries, and holds the attention of a toddler.

i purchased this for my 3 year old who is a big fan of mickey mouse so when i saw this i knew i had to get it and the best part is that he will never lose all the blocks ! it is well made the pictures are good on both sides!
