This was actually my first sea monkey kit, and I was positive that would die and I would be wasting money. As soon as they starting growing though I immediately became fascinated with them. They are very interesting to watch but they are a few things that must be done to keep them alive. Even though they aren't dogs or cats, they are still living creatures and deserve some care. You MUST aerate the water to keep them alive. There are a few ways to do so, but I find the most effective to be buying a Million Bubble Air Pump. This works quite well, and is definately the best choice to aerate the tank because it is simply and quick. There are other methods mentioned in the guide book, but one way that I have found to be VERY useless is swishing the water around with a spoon or mixer. This simply stirs up the existing water, adding no additional oxygen . When I have tried this within a few days of using this method they died. Using the other methond however, I have had my monkeys for years very succesfully for years. Other things to remember is to never feed too much but do feed atleast once a week, don't let the water level get too low and when it does need to be topped off, use ONLY bottled water. Always read the quidebook and remember to be careful ALWAYS when handling the seamonkey tank. I hope you all have found this review to be useful, but I have definately found this product to be a wonderful success and would totally recommend and back up this product to anybody.

No other pet out there is as easy to care for as these little creatures! They're not really brine shrimp, but a genetically modified version if them. No anticipation for these little guys to hatch, for they are truly instant life!! Requiring only that you feed them once a week,These are great pets for ages 8-108! On top of everything they are kind of cute in their own ugly little way. (let it be known they are pets not "disposable fun" or "toys" for the children; THEY ARE LIVING BEINGS!)

Sea Monkeys are easy to start and take care of. We did have to wait a day for the water treatment to take effect, but after that, our Sea Monkeys hatched quickly and have grown to a size where they are easy to watch.

They do have a certain grace; they are always swimming with a ciliate, wavelike motion across their bodies. It's best not to feed them too often, so it's not like you have to get a fish-sitter or put them in the pound if you go on vacation for a week.

The "Mars" tank is adequate and comes with the basic food and the "plasma" which allows a little feeding experimentation. The tank does not contain the aerator so far, we seem to have gotten by by swishing the water in the tank around to aerate it. Perhaps a deluxe set may have some more of the extras and perhaps the manufacturer is a little stingy with the extras, considering the manufacturing cost.

The Sea Monkeys are one of those rare educational toys that have a lot of play value, are inexpensive, and have a somewhat open-ended path of exploration. There are no guides to what to look for or what experiments to perform and that draws on the imagination and on the particular facets of the child's personality and talents.

Honest reviews on Sea-Monkeys on Mars

I bought this product not knowing what sea monkeys were or what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. After just a few days, the "martian" environment was brimming with life. At first, I could barely see them and wasn't sure if they were alive or just particles floating around. Now I can actually see them from a few feet away, swimming around and doing flips.

They appear to be little shrimp-like creatures. I'd recommend this for youngsters as a primer before getting a more demanding pet. The maintenance is pretty low, but you DO need to do a couple minor things every now and then to keep them alive and prolong their lives. Supposedly they can live a couple years. We're at 1 month and counting...

We have had the same set of sea monkeys for over a year, and they are still thriving! The only problem is the tank gets so dirty and you can not clean it because the water needs to be a certain saline concentration. However, the monkeys love living in the grime! Feeding monkeys and maintaining the water level is my 7 year olds resposnsiblity, it is a great first pet!
