Reviews of Tin Can Robot - Green Science Kit
This 70+ yr old grandma with fat fingers spent about 2 and a half hours assembling the robot. The instructions were good, but some parts weren't clear. I had to refer to the picture on the box to figure out what to do. This kit says for children over 8. I would amend that to say for children over 8 with an adult who is experienced in wiring and nimble with their fingers. The screws are very small. A magnetic screwdriver (small crosshead) helps with the small screws. All the parts were there, although some looked like they were assembled already, which confused me a little. When we (by this time I had called in my husband for help) turned on the switch, nothing happened. I read the troubleshooting instructions (Step E) and found that tightening the gear case screws helped mesh the two gears together and the robot moved, although sporadically. Reread the troubleshooting instructions which suggested lubricating the gears more through "the small hole at the back" which was a challenge to find. My husband oiled the gears with a drop of sewing machine oil and the robot began to purr and move smoothly across the floor. It is cute, works, but a challenge to the inexperienced!
