I am quite surprised by all of the mixed reviews for the Didj learning system. I purchased this Didj system and my 8 year old son(3rd grade) has thoroughly enjoyed the system. It is true that Christmas morning I could not sync the product with the Internet, but within a few days this issue was resolved. I do disable the firewall associated with my computer (Dell XP) and then the interface with the Leapfrog Learning system seems to work well. Leapfrog has tried to find a balance between education and gaming, a balance that is not easy to determine. I do wish that is was more focused upon education, but my 8 year old son does spend hours playing it. He enjoys earning points and buying things for the game via the Internet, and I do receive e-mails from Leapfrog that describes his progress. I also purchased the carrying case, and I have not had problems with the case flying open it was initially a little tricky for my son to open it, but he has gotten the hang of it. The screen on the Didj is easily scratched and even though he is quite carefully a screen protector is probably a good investment. The range of games he seems to enjoy, Spongebob, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Nick Tunes, Fosters Imaginary Friend, etc. I do think that this is a good product, and have been surprised by other reviewers who have reported such a bad experience. I did purchase the black Star Wars edition of this product so maybe this might account for some of the difference. Can't wait til the new improved recharger is re-released as this does really go through double A batteries. I am planning to purchase the Leapfrog Crammer as he needs more help with learning multiplication tables.

Well I got two for christmas, they worked for about a day. One of them got an error saying it needed a tune up. I connected it to the computer and nothing happened I spent 4 hours fiddling with it. My other son's didj connected, so why would this one not connect? Customer support insisted it was network connectivity issues. Ha! If that was the case then why would one work and the other one not?
Shortly there after the other didj developed a problem, it kept randomly shutting down during game play.
After 3 hours of working with customer support I finally got them to replace the items. They said they had to send me an email with instuctions to get a return and I should expect the email in a few hours. .... No email.... so I called again the next day, again on hold for an hour, and finally got that resolved.
So I get my two new didjs. We open one up and guess what? This one cant read any of the games! ARGH!! And to add insult to injury, the charging station stopped working too!
I have not opened the 4th one as I see no point. I have no faith in the product. I am currently waiting on a response as to what we do from here. Are they going to refund me, exchange for a different product, or try to make me just deal with it!
02/11/10 update
Leapster took a long time to get back with me, referred me again to troublshooting tips, and then told me to return it to the store i purchased it at. So I told them I can't because all this time I have been dealing with leapster, I have now passed the returns deadline with . Leapster basically reponsded with "oh well!" So I contacted (who i purchased it from through amazon.com) and they agreed to take them back even though it was passed the deadline. THANK YOU for standing by your sale much better than Leapster stands by their product!!!

My children love this toy. It is educational too so I don't mind them playing. My son wanted a DS for Christmas but we didn't want to have him playing mindless games all the time. This has been a wonderful compromise. You can hook it up with the computer to adjust what your child is learning and then look on leapfrog's learning path to check on their progress. I wish that they made more games for it though. Also, we go through batteries fairly quickly. We are getting the recharging station ASAP. Also, our original Didj did not recognize the games but leapfrog mailed a new system out without any hassles. The new one works perfectly.

My son is video game "crazy," like most 9 year olds. I bought this system for him for Christmas and my mother bought him a PSP at the same time. He had been having trouble with learning his math facts, so I took all the other gaming systems away and told him he could only play his Didj. I bought another Math based Didj game so he could switch between the two games. Within 10 days he had almost mastered his multiplication math facts, and he said he had fun doing it! I am more than please with this product and the games. WELL worth the money!!

I totally rolled the dice on this one having read ALL the mixed reviews on this product. My son really never loved the Leapster and was ready for something a bit more "gaming". I am NOT one to force gaming onto my son, but I wanted to find something that would interest him and still have an educational component...plus didn't want to pay the big price of a DS or PSP. This has totally fit the bill. My son is really into Star Wars so the fact that the system is a special edition was an added bonus. Since the Clone Wars game came with it, it really brought the price of the system down to under $30. We have had NO issues with loading, uploading, etc. The learning pathways feature is awesome...who knew you could customize this thing??!! I would recommend this bundle without reservation. Great alternative to pricy gaming systems.
