This is a wonderful game for your budding paleontologist. You learn about different dinosuars eating habbits, match up pieces of a skeleton or a portion of a picture with a picture of the full scale dinosaur, run through mazes, and protect your nest from predators. Once you read 100 points from the aforementioned games you get to dig for fossils. When a skeleton is complete the game plays a video that give you the facts about the dinosaur and an animation of what things may have been like. My 5 yr old son played this game for 2 hours non-stop when we were stuck in a traffic jam and still loves to play it. His 19 month old sister always watches over his shoulder as he play and she can now tell you words like omnivore and herbavor and properly acts out with her toys what the words mean. I think this was a wonderful investment.

This game--like many a Leapster game--is pretty good, but when you get to the dinosaur maze, there are control-pad issues that you and your children will struggle with, such that it becomes a bear to navigate. Essentially, the dinosaur goes left and right just fine, but when you want it to go up or down, you need crackerjack timing and surgical precision. My children don't play this one very much due solely to that issue. Too bad. Seemed like a good game.

Honest reviews on LeapFrog Leapster Learning Game Scholastic Digging for Dinosaurs
My son was not interested in dinosaurs at all before I bought this product, and now he wants to go to the Museum of Natural History. He loves this game. I was not as impressed. Children learn the difference between herbivores and carnivores. They learn that dinosaurs had to protect their eggs from predators. They learn that if you dig into the earth, you can uncover dinosaur bones which can be put together to form a skeleton. They learn traits of several dinosaurs. These are all good things to learn, but there could be so much more to this game. To me this was a game that could have been as involved as Animal Genius, but wasn't. To me Animal Genius is the best game available from Leapster, and this game is about a fifth as educational as Animal Genius. If my son already loved dinosaurs and knew something about them he may have been disappointed with this game, because it doesn't have much to offer.

We chose this to combine an educational experience with one the grandaugter's favorites-dinosaurs. Although she is a year young for the age rating, her dad felt she could manage. Very good reception from her!
