Learning to think in terms of 10s is vital to understanding and computing math. These cards give students a visual understanding of 10s. Thus, these cards help build math skills. There is a wonderful book about number talks that will help explain even better about how to use the cards. I use these at home and on road trips with my children. We play games with them though I would not consider them a toy. This is great for elementary students. Middle schoolers can benefit also if they are having difficulty with basic math.
