I did not purposely buy the clear set, which has the exact same pieces as the 48 piece solid color set. I got it because it was Amazon Prime available and the solid color set was not. When I bought the clear set it was only a couple of dollars more expensive than the solid color set. The clear was selling for $67 and the solid color set was selling for $65.
Fortunately, my two kids agreed that the solid set is my daughter's and the clear set is my son's. So no more warfare concerning this one toy!
The quality of this set is as good as the original set we bought. The pieces are durable and can take a reasonable amount of banging. I should add that neither of my children is rough with their toys, so rarely do toys in my house break. (Neither throws their toys, jumps on them, etc.) I should add the pieces are the exact same proportion as our older set so pieces between the two are interchangeable.
I highly recommend this toy. It may seem pricey but it lasts and your kids will play with them for a long time.

These things are by far the most sucessful toy we know. Our son, now age 8, got a box for XMAS at 2.5 and has played with them *literally every single day* from that day to this. They are nearly infitite in their range: at first he created shapes flat on the floor, then began building up and testing his ability to construct vertically, there was a long period of creating castles of all kinds and acting the part of a giant monster to destroy them. At 5 he was taking them outdoors and buidling a "waterworks" which he ran the hose through. He builds enormous ships 3.5ft long, rockets and elaborate town and roads with bakeries, balconies, police stations, train depots. He takes them to the tub. I'm not a huge fan of plastic toys, and it is expensive, especially to build the elaborate stuff he is building but we have happily invested in a lot of pieces becasue the play value is so high. I have no doubt that it has grown his brain in all kinds of ways too: exploring the limits of the medium and gravity, expanding on his capacity for spatial thinking and allowing him to explore all kinds of ideas in 3D design. This set is our favorite b/c it is the only one that comes with a "car" and other acessory pieces.Best Deals for Magna-Tiles Clear Colors 48 Piece DX Set
I have heard from my 6 year old granddaughter that she's enjoying playing with her magna tiles and since I gave them to her as a gift, that is a good review direct from the source.Honest reviews on Magna-Tiles Clear Colors 48 Piece DX Set
Well made and so much fun to play with I was disappointed when she took tiles home. I'm eager to build with them again. There are so many possible ways of enjoying them. The magnets are strong and need to separated by sliding them apart.I will buy them again for other children.
