Cheap Guidecraft Wooden See Saw Sorter

I love the idea of a toy that teaches weight balancing, but in order for it to work it has to actually BALANCE. This one does not, mostly because the semi-circle on which it rests is slightly uneven where it rests on the floor/table. I have tried fiddling around with the blocks, putting it on different surfaces (granite and wood), and even taping coins to it, but that little bump in the middle is a toy-killer. I suppose I could sand it down, but the world is not so short of good toys that I feel the need to do so.

Another issue is that the rounded base is 1/16" off center, end-to-end, which doesn't sound like much, but probably contributes to the problem. I also found three very small rough spots, only because another reviewer mentioned them and I was looking for them; I don't think they're really a problem. If this were a toy that didn't rely on balance, I wouldn't call it 'poorly made,' but for its purpose it is unsatisfactory. It's going back.

Update: I sent the toy back yesterday, and today was notified by Amazon that I'm getting a refund MINUS $1.73. Not even coffee money, I know, but I don't know why I'm not getting a complete refund, since the product was faulty.

This product was a huge disappointment! The paint is either old or poorly done, it is chipped and peeling. The pieces are also very poorly crafted, nothing is smooth and there is no conformity to the pieces. This product is a huge disappointment. I also ordered a nesting activity from this same manufacturer and was incredible disappointed with this manufacturer. I will never order products from them again. Items are poorly crafted and the paint on all products is peeling, cracked, and chipped, and again, there is no conformity to the pieces.

I don't know why the previous reviewer does not like this toy. The craftsmanship on ours is fine, and our son (22 months) likes it enough to seek it out, or ask for it when it's out of reach. The balancing act definitely adds to the usual sorting business but does not work so well on carpeted surfaces, obviously. I'm here to buy a second one as a gift.

As a child therapist I'm always looking for variations of shape sorters/puzzles to vary educational teachings. This is very unique and children enjoy the rocking motion. The shapes go into the platform deep enough so they don't fall out. The wood is durable and works best on a flat surface. This isn't a toy for carpeted areas.

I was a little nervous as I had never purchased this company. The wood on the top is a nicely finished hardwood. It is very lovely and sturdy. My son and I check out all the pieces before sending it to my niece. I can see hours of play and will purchase on for my son. Teaches color, balance, shapes.
