This instrument is not really a toy. It is a serious musical instrument which is tuned and can produce music. My 3 year old which is very musical really likes it, although it's a little too early for him to have enough patience to learn how to put his fingers correctly on the holes. He really enjoys blowing through it and listen to the sounds. Higly recomended.

This little thing does exactly what it was supposed to do. A nice tune, takes a little bit of practice for the finger placement. Would highly recommend.

I am familiar with Hohner recorders as I own several wooden varieties, that is. I wanted one I could use and practice any where under any conditions. The wooden ones need care and can only be played for so long before they must rest. But this model I can play as long as I like and in warm or cool weather conditions. For the price and the quality I would recommend it to anyone for serious practice or just tootling as a hobby.

My daughter wants to play my transverse flute, but 1. she's way too small, and 2. it's a >$1k instrument. This is close enough in sound that she enjoys it and toots on it, and it's a woodwind, so I was able to pick it up and start playing on it that day. Some of the notes are a little sharp or flat, but that's probably me not compensating enough with breath support or choosing a less-than-optimal fingering. I look forward to watching my daughter grow with it and learn to play it as her first musical instrument.
