I had never heard of Euler's Disk until I received it in the mail; a gift from my daughter. A simple twist of the heavy chrome-plated disk that you set on top of a concave mirror (furnished) starts it spinning at an increasing rate for at least two minutes. As it spins faster it generates a mysterious tone and changes appearance depending on which holographic magnetic designs you attach and depending on your lighting. You can Google Euler's Disk and learn how it was developed and the science behind it. But unless the manufacturer does a better job of promoting this device you will never read this revue because you won't know to look for it. Sad.

This was a Christmas gift for a 14 year old, but the whole family loves playing with it. We kept it on the table during family card games. It's fascinating to watch, especially with the interchangeable holographic magnetic sheets that you can attach to it to change the patterns. The heavy magnetic disk looks like a 3-D ball or oval as it spins, picking up speed before the disk comes to a stop. The sound shifts in intensity until it sounds almost like small motor running. Loops of light appear near the base. It's fascinating.

I used this is my classroom for several years--now my 4 yr old niece is fascinated so I began to hunt her one. She spins and spins and spins--but note: the spinner is heavy and can break glass!

I had some of these more than a decade ago and got this one for the birthday of a friend of my son. This is one of the most unique and amazing little scientific wonders I have encountered so basic but for someone like me, hours of fun! A combination of the length of spin time speed and sound makes it fascinating, my son likes it but kids who are 8 and older I think find it more so as they begin to understand the laws of physics behind the motion...
