This box contains 6 geodes. What are geodes? Geodes are hollow rocks that have crystal formation inside. It started as a bubble of air inside layers of rock, when mineral-rich water seeped in, crystals are left behind. This process may take million of years!
The geodes are medium size. They are bigger than golf balls but smaller than tennis balls. My daughter who is fascinated with crystal and anything that sparkles couldn't wait to open them. She tried 5 times hammering (using the included safety goggles) but to no avail. I figured it needs a little more power so I took my turn. First strike and I smashed it into smithereens; I guess I have underestimated my power. You don't really need to smash them very hard as it will reduce into a pile of dust. Anyway, they are good geodes, not one came out a dud. Each one has a good amount of crystals that has formed inside.
Packaging is great, very colorful and is perfect as a gift. It has a small brochure and fun little games related to geodes. As a gift, just make sure the recipient is interested with science and in particular, about rocks and minerals. Else, kids may think Santa gave them a rock for Christmas :)
