I think the sandpaper numbers are wonderful but for one thing. The number nine looks like an upside-down six rather than the circle and line that it should look like and that was shown in the online picture. The chidren are very interested in the numbers and are constantly tracing them with their fingers and naming them, but they are always confused by the six and nine because of this variation from what was shown in the online picture.

When a child is ready to learn the written letters & numerals, Montessori sandpaper letters and numerals are the best material to use. The child traces the figure with the first two fingers while looking at it and saying its name. This gives tactile, visual, and auditory input, which really gets the information into long term memory. You can always try making your own, but you will ruin scissors and risk losing your sanity. These are beautiful, and you can sell them when your child is finished with them and get at least half your money back. To learn how to use them, see Help Your Preschooler Build a Better Brain: Early Learning Activities for 2-6 Year Old Children.

This product is one of those simple learning tools that you can use with your two/three year old toddler in identifying numbers. Because each number is sandpaper formatted (touch it!)you can have the child run their finger on each of the numbers. Taking your time in teaching the child the identity of each number, and say it, this product is very good. I like the fact that the numbers are large and allow for creativity as the child gets older and begins to make the connection with numbers and how they are inter-related. Simple, yet with some creativity, this product has an educational value for the very young.

What a great resource this is!! Excellent qualitywooden tiles with sandpaper letters. One note, I was surprised by how large the tiles wereif you have the Kid Advance Sandpaper Letters, these are much largernot a problem, just a note. My son loves working with these (and the sandpaper alphabet as well). I would highly recommend theseboth in quality and educational use.
