Bought this for airplane trip with 15 month old. It kept coming to the rescue when he was bored. We were playing "I'm gonna get your (fill in body part)" and kept him amused for the 4 hours (combined with 4 books and some snacks). Plus, he was able to use it as a teether.

I received this castanet in my November box of Citrus Lane, and it's sooo cute! I love Plan Toys since they're a green company and my daughter enjoys many of their other toys. First of all, it looks like a whale, not a fish, don't you think? These castanets are made out of two pieces of wood that are held together with elastic. There is some give to the elastic so the two pieces aren't always perfectly lined up. The elastic has a loop at the end of the tail which is great in case you want to attach these to a stroller or high chair with a pacifier clip. My nine month old hasn't really gotten the hang of making it "clack" yet, but she seems amused when I show her how to use it. She prefers to bite on the little wooden ball at the end of the elastic; this makes me a little nervous since the ball is the perfect size to be a choking hazard if detached. The ball has also taken on a rough texture after her gnawing on it for a while. The whale's teeth are glued on, so I always make sure it's attached to something to prevent my little one from tossing it on the floor... wouldn't want those teeth to break off! FYI, the manufacturer recommends 12+ months for this toy.
