I just love the sweet look of these animals, despite not all of them really being "jungle" animals ;-)I ordered two sets of Qube animals...Farm and Jungle. In the farm set, two of the animals had small cracks in the wood near the edge (check out my review of the farm animals for more details Farm Animals Qube Play Set) so I would recommend giving any of these Qube animals a thorough inspection before handing them over to your little one. As I mentioned in my review of the farm animal set, there are a couple animals where the printing is slightly "off" but it's barely noticeable.
I initially thought the animals were too small for the manufacturer's suggested age of 12 months (some of them fit through a paper towel tube a common litmus test for choking hazards). My son is 11 months old and does not put these in his mouth; however, for a child that still likes to put things in his mouth I would suggest holding off on these until a slightly older age.
Right now we are using them to learn animal names and sounds, colors, and more. My son also likes to clap them together and they make a somewhat pleasant sound. I anticipate lots of creative and imaginative play with these animals as my son grows.
As an aside, because we have almost three full sets of these, I did not choose to keep them in their individual plastic cylinder sleeves in which they came. I am storing them in a spare Huggies wipes tub the kind with the rubberized zigzag opening under the lid. My son likes to push the animals through the opening one at a time when it's time to clean up. Before I disposed of the plastic sleeves that initially housed the animals, I cut the rope that attached the little wooden Hape heart logo so now we have three heart blocks as well...perfect for adding to lacing toy sets.
I am happy with these Qube sets and will likely purchase another set or two in the near future.
