This is a cute toy of high quality but for some reason we expected it to do a little more than it does like magnify or change the colors you see.Best Deals for Uncle Milton Nat Geo Wild Chameleon Vision Goggles
A few disappointments:I expected the eyes to move freely in every direction but they do not. You have to twist them.
I expected something to be in the eyes that changed the perspective, but the eyes just block all of your vision except what you see through the holes in the eyes. In short, it is a bowl-shaped eye with a hole in it. This does give you the illusion that you are looking at "two different things" at once, but it is just a way of selectively limiting your vision.
At first I didn't even notice the mirrors that let you see behind you. If you look at the picture, you can see a little tab off to the side of the eyes. There is a hole where the strap attaches to the mask (just like goggles). The mirrors are on those little tabs just to the side.
Some qualifying statements and praise:
It is probably a good thing that the eyes don't really change your vision. I can't imagine a 6-yr old trying to walk around with this thing on if it did!
This thing seems pretty darn sturdy. The plastic is hard, molded plastic, but the mask is comfortable.
As much as I wanted this thing to do all sorts of amazing tricks, I'm happy with the simplicity of it. It looks awesome (!) and I think the "effects" will be enough to entertain the 6-yr old but simple enough to get the hang of quickly (and not make them fall down the stairs).
This is birthday present for said 6-yr old, so we'll see how he likes it. I bought it with the Chameleons are Cool book and it makes a good gift set presentation.
