We used this kit in conjunction with a trip to the planetarium, a telescope, and a star map. The make-your-own telescope in this experiment is great because it shows you exactly how a refracting telescope works. (It's not a high-power scope... it's for educational purposes only. But it's so cool that you can build it yourself!) Some of the projects are a little less educational: the moon flip book, making craters with a flour-covered "moon". But all in all, it's a great educational value for the money -a ton of parts and experiments and a nicely written book. The rocketry experiments are also really fun, and messy!

I bought this to go along with my 7th grade home school curriculum. Not for a challenge, more for a fun way to get my son more interested. A few things were good, but for the most part, it was just too boring to keep his attention. Not worth what I paid. Maybe $10.

I got this with the intent of introducing my nieces and nephews to a little out of textbook science. Cause I dislike learning solely from a textbook. Your better off buying a textbook though than this here kit. The kit is highly colorful, illustration is great, the solar system sturdy enough for a mobile, but past the age of 8 who really wants one? Earth only has Africa on it, and Jupiter looks the coolest of them all. And yes, there is a small moon in there too. The handbook is well illustrated, and except the telescope direction ought to be re-written. Kids need to follow those things too. The stuff the thing says it comes with comes with it. No complaint there, and I think 13 is a fine price to pay. I'm glad I didn't buy it at 34 like the majority of websites are doing. This is the first low interest Thames and Kosmos kit I've purchased. Okay, quality printing wise though. I'd recommend it for an interested 1st-3rd grader or unschoolers around that age group.
