My 4 1/2 year old just LOVES this toy. When I first saw it I thought it was pretty lame, no strings, just a picture of a guitar on a piece of plastic or cardboard. The strap is a must; he loves strapping it on and playing the guitar like a rock star. He uses it all the time. We don't use the more advanced features, I don't even really know how; but he's perfectly happy with the stuff that's built in. It's a surprisingly good toy and much more durable than I thought it would be.

My son is just getting interested in playing the guitar and also loves AC/DC's music. This was the perfect toy for him. Although, the choice of songs is a little strong for young children.

My 10 year old son, who loves "guitar" games, received this as an X-mas present. He's fairly astute at these type games (plays "expert" level on Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc.) so I thought this would be a fun way to test his skills.

However, there are no skills needed. You don't actually play the songs. Instead, you simply "strum" (move your fingers over the strings) and it plays the guitar notes for the selected song. As long as you strum--which a two-year old can do--it will play the notes perfectly. Thus it requires NO skill whatsoever.

The good news is it works. I was a little hesitant seeing this guitar made of card-board, but it is of good quality and has worked extremely well. You can also hear the music clearly (so much we play it on medium volume).

It does have a "free-style" mode where you can play your own chords (without any accompanying music) which has been the most popular mode with him. Additionally, the songs are not complete songs. They are shortened versions of the songs.

All-in-all, I would only recommend this for kids between 6-8--and would not pay more than $20.00 for it.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical of these paper jamz when I saw them in the stores. It wasn't until I went online and watched a few videos of them on youtube that I decided to get them for the grand kids. They all love the guitar hero series and rockband on ps3 so it shouldn't be such a leap. Well, we got one for one of the gk's birthday's and he loves it. It takes a bit of coordination to do the strumming thing but he picked it up pretty fast once he knew the song. Plays it all the time. Volume is actually pretty loud; had to tell him to keep turning it down. They are made of hard plastic for the frame and a cardboard overlay on the top so not really a flimsy toy. The included strap on this version is a must so if your version of the regular guitar doesn't have one, get one. Can't say how long it will last if the unit is dropped repeatedly. The strap prevents that.

The added feature of making up your own chord progressions is cool too and I think the best part, letting kids explore their own music-ability. As for educational value I have to say not much. As for fun value it is great. My only beef is that you are restricted to the three songs that are preloaded on the device. At least I know the ACDC songs but the other guitars have songs I don't know and don't know if the kids know so that is a drawback. Hoping in the future that they make downloadable add on songs. Shouldn't be hard with usb and a bit of memory. Other than that, I think overall that paper jamz are pretty cool. The hard part is teaching your kids how to jump all over the place like Angus Young while playing.
