I purchased this for our three year old daughter who really loves rocks. I purchased a different gem digging kit as well, but that one was too hard for her to dig into it was by Dr. Cool. This one was very easy to dig into, and she did it all herself. She also loved to watch the "volcano" erupt first, we did it about five times with plenty of the powder left over. You will need some white vinegar for the volcano part. Afterwards she went at it with digging and cleaning each gem she found. The gems are of a decent size and we got a variety, no two were the same. We liked it so much that we got another one not to long ago, and got some new gems as well as a couple of gems we had before. I also like the booklet has tons of information on volcano and our daughter liked matching the gems up to the pictures of the gems in the booklet.
