I use this as a secondary Arduino Uno, Programmatically, there is no difference that I can tell. The reset button is in a good location and all the pins are well marked for which are PWM. Take a picture before you put a shield on it, because the markings are not printed on the back side of the board for reference. The Mini-usb is great because it doesn't collide with a shield like the full sized USB plug on the standard Arduino. Also, the Mini-USB is much stronger and solidly mounted (four SMD solder pads hold the housing in place) than the fragile micro-usb used on other boards. The teensy SMD chips give it a nice modern sleek look. I think we have a winner.
Oh, and it's red which is pretty cool.
